As Bangkok moves toward its 250th year, the city has plans to reinvent the future of its most important landmarks under Bangkok 250. For the next 13 years, the city-hall backed project will execute suggestions from a range of planners, designers and community members gathered from 40 workshops over six months. The three major zones identified in the plan are the Yothi-Ratchawithi Road near the Victory Monument, the cosmopolitan nightlife area of Thonglor-Ekkamai, and the Old Bangkok stretch around the Chang, Phrachan and Tha Tien piers. The urban design plan will also cover five smaller areas such as the transit areas of BTS Siam, Phaya Thai and Ari skytrain. The project also covers the walkway across the Chao Phraya River, which will be built on an unfinished skytrain structure that has sat unused for two decades near the Phra Pok Klao Bridge, along with space along the canal close to the bridge.
